Alo Bhubon Trust (Alo BT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving health, education, and community well-being in Bangladesh. Through healthcare services, cancer screening, awareness programs, and educational initiatives, Alo BT empowers underprivileged communities, promotes early disease detection, and fosters sustainable development for a healthier and brighter future.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and stroke are among the leading health challenges in Bangladesh, causing long-term suffering and premature deaths. Among these, cancer is particularly alarming, often detected at a late stage due to a lack of awareness and limited access to screening. Since its establishment in 2019, Alo Bhubon Trust (Alo BT) has been tirelessly working on—especially cancer prevention—a central focus of its mission to serve humanity and promote sustainable health.
In Bangladesh, approximately 200,000 new cancer cases are diagnosed annually, with over 100,000 deaths, making cancer a major public health crisis. The average annual out-of-pocket cost per cancer patient in Bangladesh is around $6,500, more than twice the average annual household income, and nearly 90% of families endure financial distress. In South Asia, head and neck cancers alone caused economic welfare losses of approximately $930 million in Bangladesh in 2010—roughly 0.29% of its GDP
Globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death, responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018, or one in six deaths. Studies show that up to 70% of cancers can be prevented through awareness, healthy lifestyle choices, and timely medical consultation. Prevention not only reduces new cancer cases but also eases the economic burden on individuals and households.
Alo BT works tirelessly to raise awareness about cancer risks, early symptoms, and lifestyle-related prevention. They conduct community programs, seminars, workshops, and courtyard meetings to educate people on the dangers of tobacco use, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity. Our activities reach all levels of society, including universities, schools, rural and urban communities, and garment workers.”
Through awareness, prevention, and free screening services, Alo Bhubon Trust is building healthier, cancer-aware communities and offering hope for a sustainable future.
